My name is Sterling Miller and from 2017-2018, I was the General Counsel of Marketo, Inc., a marketing technology company, until it was sold to Adobe. From 2008 to 2014 I was the General Counsel, Corporate Secretary, and Chief Compliance officer for Sabre Corporation (NASDAQ: SABR). Prior to that, I was the General Counsel for Travelocity.com from 2004 to 2008. I was in the Sabre Corporation legal department from 1996 to 2004 in charge of litigation and regulatory affairs, and the American Airlines legal department from 1994 to 1996. Before moving in-house in 1994, I was an associate in the Litigation Section of Gallop, Johnson & Neuman in St. Louis from 1988 to 1994. You can learn more about me here
In November 2014, I retired from Sabre. I have decided to start a blog featuring lessons learned in my 20+ years as an in-house lawyer. I will share them with you. I know from experience that in-house lawyers do not need a 10- page memo. You need quick points that you can digest and work into your everyday practice. Consequently, I have titled my blog “Ten Things You Need to Know as In-House Counsel.” My plan is to cover interesting and important topics for in-house counsel with a “Top Ten” format.
I am currently CEO and Senior Counsel for Hilgers Graben PLLC, focusing on general corporate, litigation, data privacy, and internal investigations. Through the firm, I put on free CLEs for in-house legal departments on any of the topics covered in my blog (in-person or via webcast). I consult with in-house legal departments on numerous issues and on legal project management. I am a daily contributor to LinkedIn where I post short articles on legal topics (click here to see my posts) and you can follow me on Twitter at @10ThingsLegal. In addition to this blog, I have published four books, “The Evolution of Professional Football,” “The Slow-Cooker Savant,” “Ten Things You Need to Know as In-House Counsel: Practical Advice and Successful Strategies,” and “Ten (More) Things You Need to Know as In-House Counsel: Practical Advice and Successful Strategies.” I have a fifth book on the way in 2021. My books are available on Amazon, the ABA website, and at www.SterlingMillerBooks.com.
I hope you find my blog interesting and useful. I would greatly appreciate any feedback or ideas for future blogs.
Great work Sterling…I always look forward to your blog.
