My name is Sterling Miller and for the past six years I have been General Counsel, Corporate Secretary, and Chief Compliance officer for Sabre Corporation (NASDAQ: SABR). Prior to that, I was the General Counsel for Travelocity.com from 2004 to 2008. I was in the Sabre Corporation legal department from 1996 to 2004, and the American Airlines legal department from 1994 to 1996. Before moving in-house in 1994 I was an associate in the Litigation Section of Gallop, Johnson & Neuman in St. Louis from 1988 to 1994.
I recently retired from Sabre. I will likely get back in the game in some capacity after a few months off. In the interim (and probably while I move along into the next phase of my career) I have decided to start a blog featuring lessons learned in my 20+ years as an in-house lawyer. I will share them with you. I know from experience that in-house lawyers do not need a 10- page memo. You need quick points that you can digest and work into your everyday practice. Consequently, I have titled my blog “Ten Things You Need to Know as In-House Counsel.” My direction will be to cover interesting and important topic in with a “Top Ten” list.
I hope you find it interesting and useful. I would greatly appreciate any feedback or ideas for future blogs. I have been thinking about my first topic and plan on launching the first substantive issue in the next few days. I am pretty new to this (blogging), so bear with me as I learn the ropes. Things may be a little jagged at the start but I believe I’ll catch on quickly!
Be careful out there,
Sterling Miller
